W E B S I T E A R C H I V E
This website has been up since 1995 with various web-only projects, articles, pranks, and documentation of past tours, art shows, and various other Negativland projects, all featured on the site over the years. Some of them are getting a bit too old to have on our main page, so we’ve archived them right here...
Squant -
UMN's Director Of Stylistic Premonitions, Crosley Bendix, was the first to announce the discovery of Squant, the fourth primary color! These pages described Squant's worldwide impact on human vision. Despite the obvious problems with conventional color reproduction technology, you could grab the plug-in to view Squant on your own computer for the very first time.
The Mashin' Of The Christ -
From 2004, a few years before this film short made it's appearance on Negativland's "Our Favorite Things" DVD, this short was created and rushed into the world while Mel Gibson's popular movie was still playing in the theaters. Before YouTube made it easy, Negativland experimented with using the web and Bit Torrents as a high resolution way to cheaply and quickly distribute new video work that was all about God dying in Hollywood over and over again. It received over 150,000 downloads in it's first week, which back then seemed pretty impressive! These pages explained what happened when our work was stolen (though the Bit Torrent files on the "How To Find This Video " page probably don't work anymore, so we've put up "The Mashin' Of The Christ" video here for you to enjoy.)
Radio's Worst Nightmare: "Listen Here" with Jack Diekobiscz -
From 2003, Negativland's elaborate prank on a Seattle, WA based Clear Channel radio station nearly resulted in interesting radio for the Seattle area.
Radio's Worst Nightmare: The Real Story -
A press release, article, and letter that explains in depth the true story of the above web site, what happened after it went up, and why Negativland did it. Scroll down on this linked page to read them all.
Deathsentences Of The Polished And Structurally Weak -

From 2002, these pages were made to help promote this project upon its initial release. Sounds, images, text, testimonials....
True/False Tour 2000 -
Like fact-checking, Negativland's TRUE/FALSE 2000 TOUR is long over, but the unreliability of too much unverifiable information is still going strong. Here are the web pages that were up for what was Negativland's first live tour in, at the time, over seven years. Press releases, video testimonials, a tragic and all-too-horribly-true tour diary, road movies, photos, radio spots, secret memos and more.
Family Slideshows -

People often e-mail, call, or ask us in person - "Hey, what in the world kind of childhood could produce such Negativ results?" Well, as everyone knows, the best way to find out is family slide shows. So now we present to you the childhood slide show stories of two of Negativland's founding members: Mark Hosler, and David "The Weatherman" Wills. We can assure you that these family stories in picture and sound are the same stories you'd see and hear about all the other full and part time Floptops if they actually had slideshows of their own. But they don't, so you'll have to enjoy these instead.
Pastor Dick's Jukebox -

From 1996 or so, a very early web-only based project. Negativland's Pastor Dick attempts to explain why music you never thought of as being harmful can actually destroy your life.
Pastor Dick's Mailbox -

From 1998 or so. Negativland's Pastor Dick received many letters about his online musical ministry Jukebox. His provocative opinions did not go unnoticed and all his indignantly informative replies to his readers are here.
Get Your Own Show -
Before webcasting allowed nearly anyone to broadcast, this article by Negativland member Don Joyce explained the joys of do-it-yourself avant-garde radio mixing and broadcasting.
"Teletours In Negativland" and "How To Build A Phone Fidelity Device" -
Now obsolete, but back in the good old days of mostly analog radio sound these two articles explained the joys of "teletouring" and how to build and operate a device to get the best possible sound sent from home through your telephone to radio stations for some old-school "virtual" touring, and for contributing to Over The Edge broadcasts.
God Nose -

Is this even funny? A crudely subtle late 90's take on a 60's musical icon and an example of personality appropriation which originated on our Over The Edge radio show.
"The Problem with Music" by Steve Albini
This oft-referenced article is from the early '90s, and originally appeared in Maximum Rock 'n' Roll magazine. While some of the information and figures listed here are dated, it is still a useful and informative article. And no, we don't know how to reach Steve Albini.
Forklifters Announcements -
